Another Designer Goes Target...

Another designer goes Target...I'm beginning to think that will be the new "slang phrase" in the fashion world..."Going Target"! I mean, wow, more and more big name designers are hitting the mass merchants.

Zac Posen is not the first one to do this. There have been many designers that have gone this route following in the foosteps of the pioneer, Isaac Mizrahi.

This particular line by Zac Posen is extremely trendy and very fun! The dress in the pic, for example, is two dresses in one. The ruffled skirt can come off of the dress and then it becomes more of a straight skirt option. How great is that! Designer fashion at affordable prices with an added bonus! Two dresses in one!

What does the world say? Or, better yet, what do, you, fashionistas have to say to the big name designers hitting the mass merchants? My guess is the answer will come out split. I'm actually split on this particular subject.

The majority of me LOVES the fact that big name designers are bringing their fashions to a more practical level. Why not let the masses of the world have access to the same designer fashions as the societal elite? As well as, who wouldn't love that option with the economy these days. But, the other part of me, the smaller porton, feels like it's taking away the mystique and mystery of a big name designer label. It takes away from the underlying mystery of WHY so many people covet various designers and how they set goals and dreams for owning certainly pieces of their favorite designer. They have to work for it, because of the high end price tag with the big name designers, the true fashionistas will do what it takes to get their hands on those coveted pieces. Now, by being in the mass markets, are you taking some of that away?

I really do love that more designers are offering high fashion items at more affordable prices. It's a fun way to follow the trends without emptying your pocketbook.

Go Long...Long....Long....

I LOVE the long necklace trend that has been going on for about a year and still going strong. Cross your fingers that it keeps going....going...and going.....(just like the energizer bunny), because I am LOVING IT!

Here is why I love the long necklace trend. First, ANYONE can wear in accessory. It does not matter what shape or size you are, everyone can wear a necklace! Second, because it is a simple item that can dress up an outfit.

There are so many styles, colors, and lengths that are available right now in long necklaces. Gold, silver, whatever you prefer is out there! Another fave thing of mine with the long necklace trend? LAYERING! I love that you can throw one long necklace on or six of them and it can give you a completely different look. Mix them up too! They don't have to be all matchy-matchy!

So, if you are looking for a quick fix for a tank top, sweater, tshirt or dress...throw on a long necklace! In fact, throw on two or three necklaces! I guarantee the look will be fun and instantly take your outfit to a new level!

Weekly Style Secret: SMILE

I was able to watch some of the Miss America pageant over the weekend. Personally, I LOVE watching pageants for the clothes, especially the evening wear segment.

I was watching Miss Hawaii dance during the talent portion and it mentioned that her favorite accessory is a SMILE. My first reaction was - WHAT?! What a cheesey and "typical" pageant answer.

But, then, I got to thinking. A smile IS an important accessory. Her answer is SO TRUE! If you don't have a smile on your face, you don't have anything. A smile is the best accessory that you can have to finish an outfit.

There are days where you will forget your earrings, the necklace you were planning to wear, or even your belt....but, you will never walk out the door without a smile, if you choose to use it!

SMILE! It's the best accessory anyone can have.....

Golden Globes...Golden Gowns

It's Sunday night, after a successful day of watching football (I'm a HUGE MN Vikings fan!), and I'm enjoying "quiet time" on the couch watching The Golden Globes. I LOVE watching award shows. And, yes, not for the actual awards, but for the clothing....the gowns!

Wow! I am seeing some beautiful gowns (as I sit here in my sweatpants and Vikes t-shirt feeling VERY LARGE from the "football food" I consumed earlier in the day). Black, black, and black is always popular! But, I'm noticing an abundance of nude/beige color gowns or very soft tones of color. Not as much "Pow! In your face color!".

Ooooh.....oooh.....Sandra Bullock just won! She is wearing a beautiful pruple color gown, but, I have to say, it looks kind of like saran wrap. I LOVE her and her acting, but, really? It looks kind of like colored saran wrap you can get at holiday time. (Sorry, Sandra!)

The "Pow! In your face..." color that I have to comment on is Cameron Diaz. What a beautiful shade of red! Beautiful shade!

Can't wait to see what other gowns appear on the screen before 10 p.m.!

I LOVE this time of year! Everything is so festive! Homes sparkle with lights inside and out...tinsel strewn about....smiles of holiday cheer...it's the perfect time of year!

I, personally, like this time of year, because it gives me an excuse to pull out the sequins! Sequins SCREAMS holiday time and anything sequins is definitely a HOT item this season!

Now, sequins can be overwhelming to many, so make sure you are wearing it appropriately. For example, you don't want to loook like a Christmas tree or an ornament that came right off the tree, so be smart how you WEAR sequins.

Wear only ONE item of sequins at a time. I repeat, only ONE item at a time. Now, that one item could be a dress (like the one above - LOVE IT!) or it could be leggings, shoes, skirt, or a purse. But, do NOT over do! Blow people away with that one statement sequin piece and keep the rest of your outfit more conservative and "quiet".

Not Too Late To Be Thankful....

Okay, okay, I know...I was planning to get this to you BEFORE the Thanksgiving holiday, but it's never too late to be thankful. I thought I'd take the holiday that is meant for "giving thanks" and put a fashionable spin on it. It's a "given" that I am VERY THANKFUL for my family, friends and health. That goes without saying! So, why not have some fashion fun on this holiday:

10 Items that I'm thankful for from my closet:
(Of course, in no particular order, because how could you possibly pick one over the other..)

1. The Classic White Shirt: This shirt NEVER goes out of style and withstands the test of time. It is one of the most vesatile items in your closet.

2. Pencil Skirt: LOVE the pencil skirt! This, too, will stand the test of time. It works for business or pleasure and has it's own subtle "playfulness" to it.

3. Dark Wash Denim: It's a MUST HAVE for everyone! Two reasons: One, because the dark wash gives you a slimmimg effect. Two, because it is considered a dressier wash and can be easily worn on "casual Fridays" at the office!

4. Black Pants: Make sure it's a wool or poly blend, as it will last longer and a perfect addition to mix and match within your wardrobe.

5. Leopard: I have leopard print flats that I wear ALL THE TIME. It's a perfect finishing touch to any outfit or could be an item all it's own!

6. Tennis Shoes: These are great for when I do make it to the gym and playing with my hubby, stepson, and doggies outside!

7. Cardigan Sweater: This is my "go to" layering piece. It is perfect for those cooler days, as well as an extra layer while you endure the freezing temps of the air conditioner!

8. Long Necklaces: Layer, layer, layer! The more the merrier! I'm really enjoying this trend and love to put them on with anything and everything!

9. A Statement Timepiece: I LOVE the white ceramic watch that my hubby gave me for our wedding! It has true sentimental value. But, make sure, you have at least one watch in your wardrobe that proves to be professional or casual no matter the situation.

10. High Heels: There is something about putting on a great pair of high heels that you feel like you can go out and conquer the world. I LOVE that feeling!

Ah, and the list could go on!! There is so much to be thankful for, big and small! Hope everyone had a FUN Thanksgiving holiday!

I walk out of that store with something in my hand...EVERY TIME!!!

I attended the Holiday Open House tonight and I had a blast! She did it right! Great food, some wine, and lots of shopping! What more can you ask for! It was a perfect evening to spend with girlfriends.

If you couldn't make it tonight, I'm sure Kate would love to have you stop by another time. You won't regret it! Well, maybe, your pocketbook will, but, you won't!!

These Are Just A Few Of My Favorite Things...Or Should I Say Favorite Trends...

Here are a few of my favorite trends as we head into the holiday season:

1. Mad for Plaid: Everyone is going mad for plaid! You can find it in jackets, shirts, shoes, and skirts. Whether it's for business or pleasure, PLAID IS EVERYWHERE!

2. Bohemian Chic: Woodstock turned 40 this year and if you are still celebrating than chances are...you are bohemian chic! The soft and billowy fabrics are more your style. The natural fabrics of suede and leather will be the basis of your shoes and jackets. But, most of all, you're just hoping for world peace!

3. Rock Star: This trend is bringing the 80's back to life...skinny ties, leather jackets, and hair bands. I grew up in the 80's, so now you approximately know my age! I LOVED the 80's and still do! Okay, I loved the 80's music more than the 80's fashion styles, but, I'm loving the updated 80's version of today.

4. Animal Instincts: I LOVE animal prints and the best part is...they never really go out of style. Leopard, zebra, and giraffe prints always find the spotlight!

You Don't Have To Be A Cowboy...To Wear Jeans!

Living in Oklahoma, jeans are definitely a clothing staple in this state. But, realistically, what states DON'T have jeans as a clothing staple these days. Oklahoma is filled with cowboys, ranchers, and, yes, cowgirls too, where jeans are their "go-to" clothing staple! Now, don't get me wrong, Levi's and Wranglers are great resources for jeans and have been around for MANY, MANY years. But, let's face it, not all of us want to wear Levi's and Wranglers...well, not everyday....

Check out what's available in denim for this fall (examples above):

1. Distressed Jeans: Yep, it's official! You, actually, WANT your jeans to have holes in them. Just be weary that there aren't more holes than actual jean.

2. Flared Jeans: These are a great option, if you are tall, as well as if you are trying to balance out a pear shape.

3. Boyfriend Jeans: These are meant to be fun, a little bit loose with a "worn out" look to them. Perfect for looking great while running errands!

4. Skinny Jeans: This style is harder to wear and you have to be more particular with your top choices in order to balance proportions appropriately. A more "forgiving" version of this style is the straight leg jean.

Here is the most important thing when it comes to jeans: MAKE SURE THEY FIT! It's not good to see body parts that you shouldn't be seeing ( you know what I'm talking about), as well as you don't want to look like you had to jump off a building to get in to them. The cut needs to fit your body type, as well as the proportion makes sense to your body type.

Jeans are a wardrobe staple that can be used for casual wear, "casual Fridays", or even dressy (depending on the cut, style, and rinse). There are a variety of ways to wear them, so make purchases that make sense to your lifestyle!

Make a Statement!

Make a Statement...WITH a STATEMENT NECKLACE. Now, what are the qualifications for a necklace to be called a "statement necklace"?
