Priceless Gifts!

Nothing means more to me than gifts from the heart! They are the best gifts that money can buy! It's the type of gift that may cost $5 or $500 or, maybe, no cost at all. It's the heartfelt sentiment that makes them priceless!

I am reminded of this as we just celebrated Mother's Day yesterday, as well as my birthday a month ago. The gifts you see in the pics were given to me by my absolutely adorable stepson, Nicholas! (You only see a side view of him, but, I KNOW, you will agree with me when I say...ADORABLE!)

The cherry coin purse was my Mother's Day gift and my blue dress, with blue bracelet, and knot necklace were for my birthday. The cherry coin purse is, obviously, something I probably wouldn't have purchased for myself...but, the fact that it came from Nicholas, that he picked it out all by himself, and was so proud to give it to me, that now, I can't wait to use it! It will be THE perfect coin purse for me to use...for just $4.99! But, priceless, when every time I see it, as I dig through my purse, I will be reminded of who gave it to me and when.

The blue dress, blue bracelet and knot necklace were my birthday presents. He was so excited to go to the store with Dad and pick something out all by himself. And, he did! He picked the blue dress, because blue is his favorite color, the bracelet, because it's blue, and the knot necklace, because it reminded him of a snake. Did I mention that he LOVES being outside with bugs and animals? He is ALL boy! Again, all 3 items, I think was a total of $30-$40. But, priceless, when it comes to who gave it to me and when.

Nicholas was so excited about his purchases that he was telling everyone that came over about what he bought me, wanted me to show it to them, try it on, etc. He was so cute! THAT, again, makes all of these gifts PRICELESS! It puts a smile on my face whenever I look at these items! I'm reminded of his smiling face, gleaming with pride when he gave each of these gifts to me. Nothing could make me happier than gifts from the heart! Gifts that I will cherish ALWAYS!

He is waiting patiently for the weather to warm up, so I can wear my blue dress and blue bracelet. He asks me on a regular basis if I'm going to wear the blue dress...so, let's hope the warm weather is here to stay...soon!

My hubby thinks I'm rubbing off on him and that I've taken Nicholas with me on too many shopping trips. He was amazed at how Nicholas would pick things out and say that he liked that, didn't like that, liked this dress, didn't like that dress, etc., etc. - and the thought he would put into the items that he picked! I'm thinking he's a natural at shopping....that's a GREAT trait...my hubby...he isn't so sure!

But, my hubby and I are in agreement when it comes to gifts from the heart! It doesn't matter what the actual item is...it's the meaning behind it that makes it worth so much more...it's priceless!

Who Are You? Say It With A Monogram...

Monograms! They are everywhere and I dont' think they ever go out of style! You see them on bathrobes, towels, sweaters, t-shirts, and even bedding! Remember the days of Laverne and Shirley, she didn't go ANYWHERE without displaying the HUGE "L" on the upper corner of her chest.

100 Years Of Customer Service...

Last week, Miss Jackson's, here, in Tulsa, OK, celebrated their 100th anniversary! 100 years in business! Think about that....that is a LONG time! How many businesses do you know, specifically, a specialty retail store, that has been in business for 100 years? THAT is very impressive!

The original "Miss Jackson" was Nelle Shields Jackson. She was the founder of the specialty retail store that still exists today in Utica Square. According to the Tulsa World article, last Thursday, it simply states that "she wanted to make people's lives more beautiful and enjoyable". What a simple concept!

Nelle took that concept and then took it one step further by offering EXCEPTIONAL customer service. I mean, EXCEPTIONAL! It wasn't just walking into the store and having someone say "May I help you?" It was more than that! It was about creating a culture that it was the "norm" to be treated like royalty, by having a personal shopping assistant within the store. The same person that you would work with EVERY TIME you came into the store. The person that knew your styles and tastes. The person that would call you the minute a garment came in that screamed your name. The person that knew you would LOVE IT before you even saw it! They would, also, take your coat, provide you a place to sit, and offer you something to drink.

Because of the excellent customer service and their pride in offering higher end designer names that aren't offered anywhere else in town, is what has kept them in business for this long. It became a tradition for generations of families to shop at Miss Jackson's. Great-Grandma shops there, Grandma shops there, Mother shops there...you see where I'm going with this! It has continued to live through the cycles of the economy, because of those families. The families that made Miss Jackson's a tradition.

Think about this for a minute, how many stores do you go into today and the store personnel know your name? Or they know your mother's name or grandmother's name? How many even ask you if you need help these days? How many offer you a chair and something to drink while they show you what they have available in the store? What happened to the days of good customer service? Scratch that....what happened to the days of EXCEPTIONAL customer service?

With the economy these days, businesses, specifically retail businesses, come and go on a very regular basis. So, what's the trick to Miss Jackson's? Why, as a specialty retail store, have they been able to stand the test of time?

My belief is this...they cater to their customer. They cater to their clients. It's not about competing with other stores, about the latest and greatest technique and trick, it's about staying true to their customers. They know what works for their customer and they stick with it!

Seems like a very simple concept....but, do you think that is what retail businesses are doing these days? I'd be curious to your thoughts.....

But, I do need to say "HAPPY 100th ANNIVERSARY, MISS JACKSON'S!" You have achieved a feat that most specialty retail stores will never do!

A childhood memory that I absolutely LOVE were the days of shopping for a new Christmas dress and a new Easter dress. Twice a year, I, specifically, remember getting in the car and heading to the mall with my Mom to locate THE dress for each holiday.

Little boys in their vests and bowties, girls in their bonnets and dresses, dads in their spring ties, and moms in their suits, spectator heels, and hats to match (their grown-up version of bonnets). Oh, what fun! What fun!

It was a candy filled day in so many ways! Everyone in their Easter candy colors while they inhale their jelly beans! How could you NOT love that!

Gone are the days where everyone follows the Easter dress "ritual", but, that doesn't mean you don't have to let this childhood memory go, have fun with all the Easter worth dresses that are available now!

Weekly Style Secret: SMILE

I was able to watch some of the Miss America pageant over the weekend. Personally, I LOVE watching pageants for the clothes, especially the evening wear segment.

I was watching Miss Hawaii dance during the talent portion and it mentioned that her favorite accessory is a SMILE. My first reaction was - WHAT?! What a cheesey and "typical" pageant answer.

But, then, I got to thinking. A smile IS an important accessory. Her answer is SO TRUE! If you don't have a smile on your face, you don't have anything. A smile is the best accessory that you can have to finish an outfit.

There are days where you will forget your earrings, the necklace you were planning to wear, or even your belt....but, you will never walk out the door without a smile, if you choose to use it!

Golden Globes...Golden Gowns

It's Sunday night, after a successful day of watching football (I'm a HUGE MN Vikings fan!), and I'm enjoying "quiet time" on the couch watching The Golden Globes. I LOVE watching award shows. And, yes, not for the actual awards, but for the clothing....the gowns!

Wow! I am seeing some beautiful gowns (as I sit here in my sweatpants and Vikes t-shirt feeling VERY LARGE from the "football food" I consumed earlier in the day). Black, black, and black is always popular! But, I'm noticing an abundance of nude/beige color gowns or very soft tones of color. Not as much "Pow! In your face color!".

Ooooh.....oooh.....Sandra Bullock just won! She is wearing a beautiful pruple color gown, but, I have to say, it looks kind of like saran wrap. I LOVE her and her acting, but, really? It looks kind of like colored saran wrap you can get at holiday time. (Sorry, Sandra!)

The "Pow! In your face..." color that I have to comment on is Cameron Diaz. What a beautiful shade of red! Beautiful shade!

Can't wait to see what other gowns appear on the screen before 10 p.m.!

Aaahh, the motorcycle jacket! Does it ever really go out of style? I mean, come on, the pink jacket is from Harley Davidson. Everyone knows that Harley Davidson is iconic when it comes to motorcycle jackets.

This season, we are seeing them in a variety of styles, colors, and fabric. I, personally, was surprised at how much I liked it when I saw the motorcyle jacket in light blue. Okay, first, I was going to ask Kate, if she would let me take pictures of her store to post on my site. But, typical me, I was so caught up with shopping and visiting with everyone that I left without taking any pictures! OOPS!

However, I did walk out with a bag of goodies....priorities, right?! HA!

If you haven't had a chance to check out this boutique, you need to! It's Kate918 and you will find it at 101st and Yale. Most, if not all, are familiar with Donna's Fashions, which is a great store too. Kate918 is in the same shopping area as Donna's. (You will have to forgive me, I can't remember the name of the shopping center right now. I'm sure I will think of it during the middle of the night!)

Kate, the owner, is very sweet, and so is Melissa, the manager. They are moms, like many ofus, and they totally "get" the concept of "even if you're a mom, you can still be stylish"! Yahoo! I walk out of that store with something in my hand...EVERY TIME!!!

I attended the Holiday Open House tonight and I had a blast! She did it right! Great food, some wine, and lots of shopping! What more can you ask for! It was a perfect evening to spend with girlfriends.

Sparkle and Shine....

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SHOE!

I cannot tell you how in LOVE I am with this shoe. WHY? First, because it is a Christian Louboutin. Second, because sequins are VERY IN for this holiday season, and, third, because I LOVE SHOES.

Actually, I'm not the only one loving this shoe. If you watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Kim sports this shoe at Sheree's fashion show (Yes, it's true..I'm a fan of the song "Tardy for the Party"..okay, I said it!) AND Carrie in Sex and the City 2 is wearing a much higher version of Christian's sequin heel (the Pigalle pump). Now, I don't think I have to say this twice. If CARRIE is wearing a shoe like this, EVERYONE will be wearing a shoe like this(or at least a version of it!)

This particular Christian Louboutin shoe retails for $595.00 at Barney's. Yep, for those of you that know Christian's line and are in LOVE with the red sole shoes...you are not surprised by this price! However, I will be the first one to admit that a shoe at this price doesn't fit in my shoe budget (although, I REALLY WISH it would), but, a girl can dream and lust over it, right?

Another tip: Oprah wears A LOT of Christian Louboutin. How do I know this? The red sole is the giveaway! Oprah always sits in her chair and tips her foot UP, so you can see the sole of her shoe! It's actually kind of annoying, but it does make it easy to see what kind of shoes she is wearing!

Christian Louboutin is the "NEW" Manolo Blahniks. Dont' get me wrong..I LOVE Manolos! But, Manolo is going to have to make room for Christian.

Ah, I'm going to dream about Chrisitan Louboutin shoes tonight.........

Vintage T's...A Blast From The Past...

As we all know, the holidays are right around the corner. What is it? It's only like 7 weeks until Christmas (or somethingl like that)? I am all about finding fun and creative gifts that really SURPRISES the recipient. I LOVE the holidays for the GIVING, sure, receiving is fun, but, I really love the quest for THE gift!

While watching football this Saturday afternoon, I came across these vintage tshirts while perusing one of my MANY fashion mags. It was Casper the Friendly Ghost, that REALLY caught my eye! Do you remember Casper? I was just trying to explain to my stepson around Halloween on who Casper was, because we were talking about ghosts and I said that I only like FRIENDLY ghosts. I used to LOVE watching Casper the Friendly Ghost. (Does that date me?)
